Wataynikaneyap Power affirms and acknowledges the natural laws, given by the Creator, to follow Anishininiiw protocols and customs.
Anishininiiw laws, protocols, and customs adhere to knowledge of environmental management that embraces a wholistic worldview.
Anishininiiw laws require taking action sanctioned by the Creator: action to respect and recognize kaakichiihawishkang (Elders) and kaaniikanishkang (Land Keepers), and the Anishinaabeg and Anishininiwag Peoples.
As per the Anishinaabeg and Anishininiwag Guiding Principles:
Our original instruction and sacred responsibility given to us by the Creator is to protect the land, which in turn protects us. The Wataynikaneyap Power transmission system will be operated and maintained in a way that protects the environment
Wataynikaneyap Power will respect confidentiality and comply with any conditions of use for all Traditional Land and Resource Use information provided by the First Nations, including intellectual property and data governance requirements.
Western practices have established benchmarking and standards which often compartmentalize knowledge. Wataynikaneyap Power is required to be in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Wataynikaneyap Power recognizes that the land on which Wataynikaneyap Power has its head office is the Homeland of Animikii Wajiw. Gitchi Gami Anishinabek are signatory to the Robinson-Superior Treaty of 1850. The Wataynikaneyap Power transmission system is located within the Homelands of Treaty 9 and Adhesions; Treaty 3 and Adhesions; and Treaty 5 and Adhesions, through the true spirit and true intent as understood by our Elders.
